“If we act fast, we’ll figure it out later.” This sentence has launched countless initiatives. It sounds practical. Decisive. Responsible. It is also one of the most expensive assumptions organizations make. Many failures do not originate in poor execution, lack of discipline, or resistance to change. They originate earlier, when commitment occurs before the system is sufficiently understood. Problems are misclassified. Boundaries are discovered too late. Decisions are justified after the fact. Outline the boundaries within which legitimate choice remains. Decide whether to Improve, Redesign, or Preserve. Establish Closure so that the reasoning remains visible over time. Together, these steps protect the point at which uncertainty becomes commitment. They preserve the distinction between learning and justification, between restraint and avoidance, and between a decision and the execution that follows it.
